L.R. “Pat” Thompson, 91

Merino, Colo.

L.R. “Pat” Thompson, 91, of Merino passed away April 24, 2019. A memorial service was held on April 30 at the Berean Church in Sterling, Colo., with Pastor Jerry Bellis officiating.

Pat was born April 21, 1928, in North Platte, Neb. He married Lorraine Harn on Oct. 19, 1956. Pat was an accomplished horseman, this included breeding, raising and training. His horses excelled in many areas including racing, roping and showing. He had many world champion running horses, AQHA Champions and Supreme Champions. Later in Pat’s career he enjoyed continuing his breeding and training. He held many roping events in northeastern Colorado. Pat was very passionate about rodeos and teaching the younger guns about his knowledge and the “good ol’ days.”

He is preceded in death by his son Jim Thompson and brother Lohren “Tud” Thompson.

Pat is survived by his wife Lorraine, son Tim Thompson and wife Susan; grandchildren, Taylor Thompson and wife Cassie and Sadie Thompson and sister Marcine Tridle.
