Western Slope Obituaries: Donald Edwin Owen; Frances A. "Fran" Owens

Donald Edwin Owen, age 79, of Hotchkiss, Colo., died Feb. 4, 2009, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta.

He was born in Delta on April 24, 1929, to Rolland E. and Ghita M. (Marsh) Owen.

Donald married Lois Tilley on April 28, 1948, in Delta.

He served in the Air Force during World War II.

He was employed as a General Contractor for years. Donald has lived in the Delta area since 1992 after coming here from Chicago, Ill., following his retirement. He had lived in Chicago since 1964, and in Denver, Colo., prior to that time.

Donald held a pilot’s license, enjoyed playing cards at Bill Heddles Rec Center, and fishing and hunting when his health allowed.

Donald is survived by his wife, Lois, of Hotchkiss; two sons, James Owen of DeKalb, Ill., and John Owen, a missionary serving in Ecuador; a brother, Jerry Owen of Wakefield, Mass.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Feb. 9, in Paonia, Colo. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery.
