On Veteran’s Day
We gather here to honor those
Who fought to keep us free.
They went to war to fight and win,
To save our liberty.
Some went when they were merely boys,
Though did return a man.
They served us well with dignity,
And followed every plan.
Young men and women let us know
On them we could depend.
They fought in places far away,
Our nation to defend.
Some volunteered and some were called
To serve there side by side.
Some slept in foxholes, grieving loss,
When many comrades died.
They gave up comforts, jobs and homes,
And many gave their all.
Whatever tribute we can pay,
Indeed, it seems too small.
Each tried to do their very best
In his or her own way.
Together, now, we raise our flag
And honor them today.
