Overnight barn fire kills 22 animals in Greeley, Colo.
More than 20 animals died in a barn fire overnight Monday just northeast of Greeley, Colo.
Eaton firefighters were called at 3 a.m., to the area of O Street and Weld County Road 39.5, on report of a barn on fire.
Chief Hugh Kane of the Eaton Fire Protection District said when crews arrived, they found a fully involved barn with a lot of hay nearby. Numerous animals including goats, pigs and horses, were corralled near the fire.
Nearby oil and gas workers tried to help the animals by opening a fence, but 22 animals died in the fire, according to a news release from Eaton Fire.
The release stated the barn was built around 1886, and a cause is still under investigation.
Firefighters from Gill and Greeley also responded.
