Lila LaVon (Neal) Shimmin, 82, of North Platte, Neb., passed away November 13, 2011 at Linden Court Nursing Home.

Lila was born on July 24, 1929 to Loren and Nancy Neal in McPherson County.

On January 25, 1948 she married Bennie Richard Shimmin in Tryon, Neb. The couple made their home in North Platte, Neb., where they raised their four children.

Lila worked for Sixth Street Bakery and was known for her love of cooking and baking. She was always willing to babysit for anyone and lending a hand in any way she was needed. She had a special love for her grandchildren and spent countless hours reading to them, playing hide the thimble and many other games, baking cookies or whatever her grandchildren wanted her to do. They all had a way of talking her into it.

Lila’s family was extremely important to her, but she always put the Lord first. In her younger days she was very involved in her church, missionary group, Sunday school classes and helping at Maranatha Bible Camp. She spent countless hours crocheting and embroidering tea towels for family and friends. Lila was a very loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her three children Paula (Dan) Dishman and Loren (Sandy) Shimmin all of North Plattem, Neb., and Charlie (Debbie) Shimmin of Chiang Mai, Thailand; Eleven grandchildren, Ben (Kerri) Dishman, Casey (Sarah) Dishman, Steven (Amy) Dishman, Jennifer (John) Hehnke, Tara (Toby) Norman, Amanda (John) Howell, Scott (Sara) Shimmin, Michael (Rachel) Schimmin, Kristen (Jonathan) Smedley, Lyndi (Phil) Miller, and Stephanie (Nathan) Porter; 22 great-grandchildren with two on the way; three sister-in-laws Sharon, Betty and Doris Neal; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bennie; her son Raymond; and infant twin sons; three brothers Kenneth, LaVern and Robert Neal.

Memorial services were held November 16, 2011 at the North Platte Berean Church.

Burial followed at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, south of North Platte, Neb.
