Ruthcile Washa, 90, longtime Ogallala resident, died Oct. 11, 2010, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

She was born June 27, 1920, in Washington, Kan., the daughter of Lester and Faye Blocker Potter. She received her early education in Lamar, Imperial, and Ogallala. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1937.

On Oct. 21, 1937, she was united in marriage to John R. Washa at Ogallala. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Ogallala and resided there over 60 years.

She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Lamar. She has been a member of the Ogallala First United Methodist Church since 1938. Her hobbies included gardening and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Pauline (Loren) Railsback of Peoria, Ariz., and Mary Ann (Bob) McEntee of North Platte; two sons, Charles (Connie) Washa of Grant and John Washa of Ogallala; two sisters, Maxine Hammond of Ogallala and Iline (John) Daigh of Newcastle, Wyo.; one sister-in-law, Ila Potter of Fort Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Ken (Deb) Ringer of Omaha, Terry Washa of Grant, Peggy (Tim) Mead of Hammond, Wisc., Diane (Joe) Sherman of Milliken, Colo., Linda Washa of Thornton, Colo., Carrie (Mark) Bauder of Sterling, Colo., Deb (Dave) Giesenhagen of North Platte, J.R. (Tonya) McEntee of Loveland, Colo., Karen Washa and Roger Washa, both of McCook, and Becky Washa of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 22 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1978; infant grandson, Paul Washa; granddaughter, Holly Washa; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Washa; brother, Dean Potter; brother-in-law, Harvey Hammond; brother, Leroy Potter; great-great-grandson, Joshua Ringer, and sister-in-law, Ila Marie Potter.
