Betty Carol Schroeder, 73, of North Platte died Feb. 23, 2011, at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln, Neb.

She was born Oct. 9, 1937, to Archie Edwin and Cleo Fern (Paxton) Neal on the ranch 11 miles north of Tryon, Neb. She grew up on the ranch and attended Dist. 9 School and graduated from McPherson County High School in 1955.

She married Edward ‘Leland’ Rodewald on May 31, 1955, at Raton, N.M., and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She made her home on a ranch in Thomas County, Neb., from 1955 to 1990, with a short stay in Idaho in 1958.

She married Richard K. Schroeder on Jan. 1, 1974, at North Platte. They lived on the ranch until 1990 then moved to Arizona. They moved to North Platte five years later.

She was a professional seamstress and editor of the McPherson County History Book. She also had the first full-service guest ranch in the state of Nebraska. She served as Heart Fund Chairman for several years and was with the Willing Workers Extension Club for over 50 years. She was very involved with McPherson County High School Alumni activities and was a member of the McPherson County Historical Society, Quilt Guild, Bible Study, Christian Women, two card clubs, Wednesday Night Dance Club, 4-H Clubs and the Red Cross.

She loved activities in McPherson County. She was a devout Christian, an avid reader and did Brazilian embroidery and numerous other hand crafts. She was a long-time volunteer for the North Platte Blues Festival Assn. and a wonderful cook.

Survivors include her husband, Richard K. Schroeder of North Platte; two daughters, Pamela (Doug) Schmidt of Ringgold, and Rochelle (Jim) Kemp of Tryon; a son, Blaine (Sharlene) Rodewald of Maxwell; her stepdaughters, Krista (Roger) Cox of Alma, and Barbara Schroeder of Littleton, Colo.; a stepson, Dale (Jill) Schroeder of Paxton; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gayle Neal and Kathleen (Kent) Fisher, all of Tryon and Cheryl Neal of Terry, Mont.; six brothers; two sisters-in-law; her mother-in-law, Dollie Schroeder of North Platte; an uncle, Kermit Paxton of Stapleton; many nieces, nephews and other family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Cleo Neal; and her father-in-law, Ken Schroeder.
