Fay W. Smith, 75, of North Platte, died March 6, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born July 26, 1935, to Roy C. and Jenny M. (Simonsson) Smith at Julesburg, Colo. He spent his childhood on a farm in the Big Springs area. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1952 and later attended college at University of Nebraska.

He married Sondra Dunn on July 17, 1955. He farmed at Big Springs and later worked in construction while attending classes at Colorado State University at Fort Collins. He moved to North Platte in 1965.

He worked for W.W. Wood Building Supply, Wayne Dowhower Construction and Mid Plains Community College. He was also self-employed in the construction business for several years.

In 1984, he was united in marriage to Janet (Newbrey) Gress at North Platte.

He enjoyed outdoor life, gardening, Husker Football and most importantly his family. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church.
