Evelyn May Culek, 80, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died March 29, 2010.

She was born on Aug. 1, 1929, the daughter of Earl and Melissa (Woodcock) Anderson in Niwot, Colo.

She graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 1947 at the Kimball County High School.



She met John Joseph Culek at a Junior Farm Bureau meeting and they were married on Oct. 20, 1948, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball, Neb.

They lived on a farm southwest of Pine Bluffs where she was a homemaker.



She served in many capacities within Farm Bureau, 4-H, the local Bible study group, the Democratic Party, the Pine Bluffs Historical Society and Saint Paul’s Catholic Church. In 2005 they moved to Aspen Wind Assisted Living facility in Cheyenne.

Survivors include her husband, John of Cheyenne; her children, Emily (Del) Howery of Pavilion, Wyo., John Culek, Jr. of Pine Bluffs, Wyo., Fred (Pam) Culek of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mary (J) Pearson of Avoca, Iowa., Marie (Joe) Shutty of Cheyenne, Wyo., Earl (Laura) Culek of Bellevue, Neb., and Betty Larson and Joe Overson of Elko, Nev.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leona Marie Adles; daughter, Janet Kay Schooner and a great grandson, Joseph “JoJo” Shutty V.
