Gloria Gean (Garska) Plugge, 66, of Burwell died April 10, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb., due to a stroke.

She was born at Burwell, Neb., on Jan. 22, 1945. She made her home near Kent on her parents Bernard and Irene (Sears) Garska homestead since birth.

She grew up as an only child and received her elementary education at the Kent school and attended high school in Taylor at the Loup County Public School. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on Feb. 14, 1945, and was confirmed into St. John’s Lutheran Church of Burwell, Neb., in spring of 1958.

She was united in marriage to Wayne Henry Plugge on Aug. 3, 1963. They shared 21 years of wedded bliss and to this union three children, Brent, Brandi and Bruce, were born.

Her love for her family was very apparent through all of the different functions and activities she attended for them throughout her life. Wayne and Gloria will be remembered for their sponsorship of “senior sneak trips” at Loup County schools and their many years of deep involvement in the Taylor Junior Rodeo.

She enjoyed her nights out with the ladies bridge club and supper group. She also enjoyed her involvement with the Loup County Election Board. These activities allowed her to “meet” and “greet” new and old friends.

This meet and greet attitude followed her through her entire life. She was the Secretary at the Loup County Schools for 15 years, worked at the Burwell Tribune for six years, and at the USDA/FSA office for four years. She was the manager and hostess at the Burwell Legion Club for 11 years. At present time, she was employed at the Calamus State Recreation Area, a job she truly enjoyed.

She filled her spare time driving the bus for the different school activities and she was a substitute mail carrier. Gloria said many times ” I guess I’m just lucky to be active, as I fill my time with all sorts of hobbies, taking kids here and there, a sports fan and just being a mother and grandmother.”

Survivors are her children, Brent (Tami) Plugge of Kearney, Brandi (Bud) Johnson of Burwell, and Bruce Plugge of Burwell and her six grandchildren, Nate, Taylor, and Turner Plugge; Parker and Bailea Johnson; and Hayes Plugge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, and her parents, Bernard and Irene Garska.
