Brenda A. Gilg, 44, of Cozad died July 11, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney after a brave battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 28, 1965, to Duane and Lavonne (Peterson) Peterson in Gothenburg.

She grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg, attending New Hope School and Church.

She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1984 following an outstanding sports career. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988 and took her first teaching job in Albion where she taught three years. She spent 19 years as a teacher and coach in Cozad where she was loved by many students and faculty members. In 2009 she attained a M.S. from Wayne State College.

She married Greg Gilg on Dec. 19, 1992, and was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Hannah and Madison.

She enjoyed spending time outdoors, scrapbooking, and riding horses. Her most cherished moments were spent with her family; most especially her daughters.
