Plains Edition Recipes for 9-4-10

1 c. sifted flour

1/3 c. powdered sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. orange rind, grated

1/2 c. butter, softened

3/4 c. pecans, finely chopped

3/4 c. quick oats

10 oz. jar Maraschino cherries (about 4 doz.), drained

Sift flour, sugar and salt into bowl. Add orange rind, butter and milk then mix well. Add in the oats and pecans. Form a small round of dough from about 1-1/2 tsp. of dough. Cover cherry with round of dough and smooth with fingers. Bake on lightly greased baking sheet at 375˚ for about 10-12 minutes. Roll each cookie in powdered sugar while warm and again when cooled, if necessary. Makes 3-4 dozen cookies.
