John Nuss, 89 of Scottsbluff, Neb., formerly of Bayard, Neb., passed away October 7, 2011 at his home, after an 8 month battle with cancer.

He was born February 12, 1922 in Bayard, Neb., to Christ and Mary (Spahn) Nuss, he was the third of six children. He grew up and attended school in Bayard, Neb. and Pine Bluffs, Wyo.

On January 2, 1944 John married Lucille Romick. Together they raised three children while farming in Bayard, Neb. He farmed for 40 years and then went to work for the Farmer’s Irrigation District for the next 13 years.

John loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather and was an example of love, loyalty and hard work for his family. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and Husker football. His stories brought laughter to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Lucille of Scottsbluff, Neb.; daughters and sons-in-law DeeLilla and Don Buddecke of Kimball, Neb. and Victoria and Mark Spelts of Chico, Calif. Son and daughter-in-law Jon and Cindy Nuss of Thermopolis, Wyo.; grandchildren Lisa (Jim) Eddington; Lori (John) Evans; Donnie (Dana) Buddecke; Jordan Spelts; Jonathon (Darcie) Nuss; Jennifer (Bob) Mein; Jacqueline (Federico) Roth and Kyle Nuss; nine great-grandchildren; his brother Danny Nuss; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
