Recipe contest celebrates Colo. birth & cuisine
Colorado celebrates its 130th birthday on Aug. 1. To help commemorate this occasion, Colorado Proud is organizing the “130 Years, 130 Dishes” recipe contest. “What better way to celebrate the state’s birthday than with food,” said Wendy White of the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
All state residents are invited to submit recipes in four categories: main entree, soup/salad, side dish and dessert. All primary ingredients must be grown or raised in the state and each recipe is limited to a maximum of 10 ingredients. Recipes will be judged on the use of Colorado products, taste, creativity, originality and appearance. Bonus points will be awarded to recipes that are appropriately paired with a Colorado wine.
One winning recipe will be selected in each category in each division for a total of eight winners. Winners will be announced on Colorado Day, Aug. 1, and will receive a trophy. Winning recipes will be featured in press releases and published on the http://www.coloradoproud.org Web site. Winning recipe photographs will also be featured on the cover of the 2007 Colorado Proud Restaurant Guide.

Fresh spring growth is a welcome sight for producers looking for animal forage. However, this lush growth may also be the perfect set of conditions for a case of grass tetany.
