Red Barn Project to host May 11 fund-raiser

by Catherine Werner

Fort Lupton, Colo.

The Red Barn Project ” what in the world is it? It is a non-profit organization that teaches adults and children through hands-on experiences in a community atmosphere the connection we all have with local history, each other and the environment. The 13-acre site is part of an original 1800s homestead. It encompasses a treasured red barn of that era, working corrals, evidence of Native American activity, and all in a wetland and agriculture environment.

The Red Barn Project seeks volunteers to assist in their programs that include workshops. The program has been successful in attracting active participation from local classrooms, Boy and Girl Scouts and young men and women involved in the “Turning Point” program.

The most popular workshop presented there is the “From Fear to Trust Wild Horse and Burro Program,” conducted by Lisa Hatcher and Steve Mantle. Steve and Lisa have worked very hard to make their programs a success not only for new owners but for teens that no longer trust authority in their young lives.

For more information on the Wild Horse Training Clinic with or to receive an adoption application, call (307) 352-0302. The clinic is open to spectators; however, participation is limited to successful bidders.

On May 11, from l to 9 p.m., please plan to attend the Red Barn’s annual Louisiana Crawfish broil fund-raiser and celebration. This year more than 800 pounds of live crawfish will be flown in from Louisiana. Live music, a beer garden, silent auction and a live crawfish race will be featured. Relax in an atmosphere of peace and harmony under the shadow of the restored 1902 red barn. Come and enjoy the experience of our Western Heritage and celebrate the preservation of all life.
