RMQHA Youth Racing Experience, July 11-12
Applications are now available for high school and college students to sign up for the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association’s Racing Experience. The Experience is a two-day event that will allow participants to work with a licensed horse racing trainer at Arapahoe Park.
The dates are July 11-12, 2009, at Arapahoe Park. Participants are asked to show up at the front door of Arapahoe Park at 7 a.m. to start their day of work with an assigned trainer. They will be learning what it takes to train a racehorse, from morning workouts to race preparation and finally evening feeding time.
The students will also tour the facility including the racing office, the jockeys room, the starting gate and get to be in the announcer’s box while he is calling a race.
The program outlines the many career opportunities open to the students, not just the trainer or the veterinarian careers, but also those of the racing officials, photographers, journalists and breed organization representatives, to list a few.
Any student completing this two-day event in Horse Racing 101 is then eligible to apply for a $1,000 scholarship with a possibility of several other smaller scholarships also available.
For more information about this opportunity, please contact the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association at (303) 296-1143 or apply on line at http://www.rmqha.com.
