James Leroy Helton, 73, of Greeley, Colo., passed away May 2, 2011 at home after an extended period of health issues.

He was born December 11, 1937 in Greeley, Colo., to Abram Lee and Herma Ruth (Hoff) Helton. He lived in Greeley, Colo., for most of his life and attended Greeley, Colo., schools.

On July 29, 1977, he married Marie Klinger of Greeley, Colo. He was previously married and six children were born from that union.

James was an avid fisherman, enjoyed going to auctions and working with scrap metal. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and was truly a big teddy bear at heart and will be greatly missed by all. He especially treasured times when he could watch his son and grandson during their bowling tournaments.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; two sons, Louis Eugene (Barb) and Jeffery Lon (Sheilah) all of Greeley, Colo.; four daughters, Eva Del Domes of Texas, Jeannine Ingram of Ohio, Diane (Scott) Seaman and Wendi (Mike) Dillard all of Greeley, Colo.; three step-children, Tina Aman, Stacey Titmus and John Klinger all of Greeley, Colo.; two sisters, Louverne Tucker of Greeley, Colo., and Myrtle Ludlow of Laramie, Wyo.; one brother, Raymond (Lynda) of Greeley, Colo.; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Henrietta Fern; brothers Louis Eugene, Henry Donald, Joseph Robert and Philip Dale and a step-grandson, Joseph Schmidt.

Memorial services were held May 5, 2011 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel.

Interment was at the Arapahoe Cemetery.
