Dr. Norman Henry “Norm” Laber, 74, of Eaton, Colo., passed away June 10, 2011 at the Poudre Valley Hospital in Ft. Collins, Colo.

Norm was born on February 18, 1937 in Longmont, Colo., to David and Elizabeth (Seader) Laber.

He attended the Pleasant View Ridge Elementary School which was located on his family’s farm outside of Longmont, Colo. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1955 where he ran Track and Cross Country. He won the state title in the mile in his junior year. He went on to attend Colorado State University for four years until being drafted by the U.S. Army in 1959. After serving in the Army for two years he returned to Colorado State University where he earned his D.V.M.



Dr. Laber married Rose Marie Dirks on December 24, 1961 in Longmont, Colo. He started working in Eaton, Colo., for Dr. Earl Drake and Dr. Ken Masterson the summer before he graduated from college. Following graduation he bought out Dr. Drake and worked as a partner in the clinic with Dr. Masterson for five years until he started the Eaton Animal Clinic in 1970.

Norm was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and he served on the Eaton Town Council for four years. In 2003 Norm was honored to serve as Grand Marshall for the Eaton Community Days parade. He was a life member of the Longmont Elks Club, BPOE 1055 and a member of the Eaton Lions Club for over 40 years and was Lion of the Year in 1997-1998. In 2009 he earned the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. Mr. Laber was a lifetime member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and member of the Weld County Veterinary Medical Association.



He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Laber; son, Bradley D. Laber and daughter, Brooke E. LeClaire; a sister, Lydia Laber; a brother, John Laber and wife Virginia; brothers in law, Maynard Dirks and wife June and Addison Fahlberg and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Fahlberg.

Memorial services were held June 15, 2011 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eaton, Colo.
