Robert Lee Elliott, 81, of Karval, Colo., passed away July 6, 2010 in Hugo, Colo., at the Lincoln Community Hospital.

He was born on August 21, 1928 at the ranch homesteaded by his parents Ernest Jefferson and Verbena (White) Elliott. One of seven children, Robert grew up and worked his lifetime on the ranch. He was schooled through the eighth grade in a one room school house built by his maternal grandfather.

Robert married Erma Hartelroad in Clayton, N.M., on October 12, 1948 and the couple was blessed with six children.

Robert was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting elk and deer around the Eagle area. When he was young he rode bulls and saddle broncos in rodeos.

Robert was a charter member of the Karval Lions Club, holding the office of Secretary for seven years. He was a member of the Lincoln County & Colorado Cattleman’s Association, Prairie soil conservation, districts water development protection, vice chairman of the game and fish. He was a member of the Lincoln County Fair Board and was the Fair manager for over ten years. He also served as secretary of Tri County Centennial.

He is survived by his wife Erma; daughters Maxine (Mike) Miller of Cheyenne, Wyo., Janet (Mike) Ream of Greeley, Colo., Linda (Gary) Nestor of Gypsum, Colo.; sons Rick (Dayla) Elliott of Sugar City, Colo., Russell (Dianna) Elliott of Karval, Colo.; three sisters Ina Whittlesey of Calhan, Colo., Bessie Bombeck of Grand Island, Neb., Dorothy Rice of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren Jeff Miller, Angela Miller-Soden, Brian Ream, Tom Ream, Amy Nestor-Boles, Corey Nestor, Richard (Blake) Elliott, Amber Barrat, Misty Cotterman, Roy Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Keith Crow, Cody Crow, Cory Crow, Lane Elliott; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Elvin (Bud), sisters Virginia and Lucy one infant son Ronald Elliott and one granddaughter Alicia Nestor.

Memorial services were held July 9, 2010 at the Karval Public School Gymnasium.
