J. William “Bill” Meyer, 73, of Greeley, Colo., passed away on June 17, 2009.

He was born Jan. 29, 1936 in Colorado Springs to John E. and Anna (Braun) Meyer. He grew up in Fountain, Colo., and the Briggsdale and Hereford areas.

He married Betty Zitek in Grover, Colo., on December 9, 1956. They lived in Greeley all their married life and over 48 years in the same house.

Bill started his trucking career driving for R.L. Ritchey at the Carpenter Grain Elevator. He then drove truck for Ed Meissinger. He went to work for Monfort Packing when it opened in 1960, after 12 years he bought a truck from Tiny Miller and went back to over the road. He was leased to C.O.D.E. and then Monfort transportation. He had over 3 million safe driving miles by the time he retired in 2001. After retirement, he worked with Meyer and Sons Electric Company as a mechanic and warehouse manager.

He liked to joke, tease, and was a loyal friend and enjoyed meeting at the coffee shop. He liked to raise a garden and especially tomatoes. He was proud of a machine he made to strip copper wire.

He is survived by wife Betty of 52 years; daughters, Evelyn Meyer, Greeley, Colo., Victoria Morris, Evans, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Nikki Meyer; sons, Robert (Julie) Meyer, Chuck Meyer, all of Greeley, Colo., William (Diana) Meyer, Ramona, Calif.; 10 Grandchildren, Matt Meyer, Robert (B.J.) After retirement, he worked with Meyer and Sons Electric Company as a mechanic and warehouse manager.

He liked to joke, tease, and was a loyal friend and enjoyed meeting at the coffee shop. He liked to raise a garden and especially tomatoes. He was proud of a machine he made to strip copper wire.
