Rocky Mountain Obituaries 9-19-11

Darlene (Caton) Simpson, 74, of Ault, Colo., passed away August 23, 2011 at her home.

She was born in Bayard, Neb. on May 19, 1937 to Frank and June (Siglinger) Caton. She was the youngest of three children. Her family moved to Colorado in 1943 and she graduated from Ault High School in 1955, where she met her future husband, Gary Simpson. They were married on September 15, 1957 at the Eaton Methodist Church. She worked at Greeley Gas Company after High School and then began a family. Their twins Jerry and Cheri were born on November 15, 1958 and daughter Teri was born on February 10, 1962.

She and Gary enjoyed nearly 54 years of marriage together settled in Ault among their family and many friends. Darlene was a member of the Eaton-Ault Congregational Church, was a 4-H leader, served as a National Delegate for the Pork Council Women and as a Grand Marshall in the Ault Fall Festival Parade with Gary. She was a Master Homemaker and a notable cook and caterer, feeding the Ault/Pierce Fire Department for many years, and catering many community events including harvests, brandings and town festivals. She loved Elvis, attending his first show in Denver and his last show in Las Vegas. Darlene’s happiness always took second place to that of her family, except when playing cards with them. Her soft shoulders, charming wit, and warm hugs will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Gary; her children and their spouses, Jerry and De Simpson, Loren and Cheri (Simpson) Helzer and Teri Simpson; five grandchildren and their spouses, Cliff and Heather Simpson, Kyle and Catie (Simpson) Beauchamp, Clay Simpson, Danielle Cogswell and Coree Cogswell; two great-grandchildren, Alli and Rylan, and one expected great-grandchild; her sister Dixie Fagerberg; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and June; brother Dutch Caton; and nephew John Caton.

Services were held August 29th, 2011 at the Ault-Pierce Fire Department, Station #1, 16680 Highway 14, Ault, Colo., 80610.
