Robert Schlagel, 74, of Longmont, Colo., passed away on September 17, 2009.

He was born on December 7, 1934 in Longmont, Colo., to Jake and Elizabeth (Haas) Schlagel. He attended Longmont High School where he served as state FFA treasurer. He was active in sports and was the first student of LHS to place at the high school state wrestling championships. Robert was proud to be an American and served in the U.S. Army in Korea.

Robert and his wife Phyllis (Carlson) were married for 51 years. They farmed in the Longmont area before moving to the farm they purchased near Johnstown in 1975. He enjoyed being active in many organizations. He served as president of the Longmont Jaycees and was a Jaycee International Senator. He was a 4-H Leader for over 25 years and was a Boulder County Fair Board Member. He was recently awarded with the 50 year pin for his Longmont Elks club membership, and was a member of the Sirloin Club. He received the award for Outstanding Young Farmer. He continued to be active in agriculture by helping on the farm with his son Tom, serving as President of the Highland Ditch Company for 20 years, serving on the Longmont Soil Conservation District board for almost 40 years, and serving as a director on the Colorado Association of Soil Conservation Districts. Robert and Phyllis enjoyed traveling through all 50 states, Europe, several Caribbean cruises and a vacation to Mexico with his entire family to celebrate their 50 year wedding anniversary. He enjoyed his grandchildren and loved attending their activities, including athletics, school plays, band concerts, 4-H and FFA. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He had lots of friends, had



a great sense of humor and loved to have fun.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his two daughters Dana and Dave Bachman and Cherie and Randy Oatman; his two sons Tom And Jil Schlagel and Charlie and Veronica Schlagel and eight grandchildren Jake and his wife Amy Bachman, Jaime Bachman, Cody Schlagel, Bo Schlagel, Jacob Schlagel, Nyah Schlagel, Colten Schlagel and Josh Oatman; his mother Elizabeth Schlagel, his brother Ron Schlagel, his sister Ruth Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his father Jake Schlagel, his mother-in-law Helen Carlson (Hanson), his brother-in-law Kent Anderson and two nieces.

Services were held September 22, 2009 at Christ Congregational Church.
