Sire Selection and Cow Herd Management clinics offered across the state
LINCOLN, Neb. – University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension and Nebraska Cattlemen Seedstock Council Sire Selection and Cow Herd Management Clinics will be offered across the state Dec. 1-4.
Dates and locations include: Dec. 1, Blue Hill Community Center, Blue Hill; Dec. 2, Shamrock Livestock Market, O’Neill; Dec. 3, Burwell Livestock Market, Burwell and Dec. 4, Prairie Winds Community Center, Bridgeport.
The clinics start with registration and coffee at 10 a.m., followed by speakers at 10:30 a.m.
Matt Spangler, UNL beef genetics specialist, will open the clinic by speaking on “Additions to the Genetic Toolbox: EPDs, Indexes, and DNA Markers.” Rick Rasby, UNL beef specialist, will follow with a talk on “Management Tips to Increase Profit Potential.”
A noon lunch will follow with a question and answer period.
Spangler also will present the afternoon session with “Putting It All Together: Visual Appraisal and EPDs.” This will be followed by a hands-on application on “Body Condition Scoring” and “Examples of By-product Feeds,” presented by Rasby. Cows will be available for BCS Scoring and bulls for the visual evaluation and EPD appraisal sessions.
Early registration of $25, which includes lunch, materials and proceedings, is due by Nov. 24. Registration also will be available at the door for $35.
