The first annual Firecracker sale
A group of Western Slope meat growers are going to put on the first meat goat seminar and sale in the Grand Junction area. The purpose is to put the best quality 4-H, FFA and Jackpot meat goats into the hands of the youth on the Western Slope.
Goats that are entered in the March 28 sale are coming from top quality herds in Colorado, Nebraska and Utah. This will provide outstanding wethers that will be competitive in county and state fairs or the toughest jackpot shows, wherever they go.
The goats that are purchased at this sale will be eligible to show at the July 3, Firecracker Jackpot Show and compete for the $1,000 in prizes.
Not only will there be the $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for runner-up, there also will be additional prizes donated by local feed and farm supply stores.
Along with the sale there will be a raffle for a War Lord bred billy and a Gauge grand-daughter. These are both show quality kids that could produce your next year’s winners or consignments into the 2011 Firecracker Sale. There will be a limited number of excellent breeding billies and nannies at auction after the wether sale. These animals have been carefully selected for their bloodlines and herd improvement qualities to enhance your breeding program.
There will be a seminar at the sale in March that will include nutrition and exercise for your show animal, grooming, hoof trimming and health issues. Vendors will have booths with feed, supplements, grooming items and housing for your goats.
The Firecracker Show in July will include fun classes, a costume class and possibly a goat race.
The Firecracker Sale event takes place March 28, beginning at 9 a.m., at the Veterans Memorial Park, Mesa County Fairgrounds in Grand Junction, Colo. The Firecracker $1,000 Jackpot Show will be July 3, beginning at 9 a.m., at the same facility.
