The month of June

If someone were to ask me which is my favorite month of the year I would have to say it is June.

I like June for a number of reasons. The trees are heavily laden with leaves. Flowers bloom in profusion. The grass is green. Clouds are the silver lining in an azure blue sky. And the days are long.

Mama was born in the month of June. She did not lead an easy life. At the age of 37 she found herself living in a new country, a refugee from war-torn Europe. A perennial optimist, she cherished the freedom of America. She never ceased to be amazed by the vastness of the country and the wide open spaces of her adopted land.

Best of all, Mama had the opportunity to finally visit the two places she had dreamed about during her childhood, Yosemite National Park and the Hawaiian Islands. Needless to say, she was not disappointed.

Mama left her earthly home many years ago, but to this day her zest for life has been an inspiration for me.
