Tree School planned for January in North Platte, Neb.
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – A tree school scheduled for Thurs., Jan. 8 and Fri., Jan. 9, 2008, will bring arborists together to talk about a systems approach to planting, said Nebraska Forest Service Southwest District Forester, Rachel Allison.
Sessions will begin at 8:30 each day at the North Platte Community College South Camps in North Platte, Allison said.
The workshop will feature Jack Phillips, a registered consulting arborist with clients all over North America, Allison said. He is curator of the Omaha Downtown Arboretum and teaches tree biology and preservation at Arboriculture Canada Training and Education. He contributes to Tree Care Industry magazine and is active in the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and the International Oak Society.
Phillips will be talking about “Trees in the Human Community,” “The Tree as a System within a System” and “Species Selection and Site Analysis” on Thursday.
Allison and Nebraska Arborists Association President, Bruce Hoffman, will discuss “Planting Techniques” and “Community Trees in the Mid-Plains” on Friday.
Since class size is limited to 24, pre-registration is required. The fee for this tree school is $95 per person.
