Turn SPAM into ribbon winner!
The Colorado State Fair will host the Great American SPAM Championship this year. This is a national recipe contest at the country’s top state and county fairs and has turned into a Colorado State Fair favorite.
Cooking creatively with SPAM can turn tasty recipes into prize packages and blue ribbon honors ” plus a shot at national grand prizes. Both adults and youth are invited to take part.
Combine any variety of SPAM with up to nine other ingredients and deliver it to the fair for judging. Recipes will be rated on taste (40 percent), originality (30 percent), and presentation (30 percent). Cooking or baking time should be under 30 minutes. Participants are competing for a total of $225 in cash prizes.
Two grand prize winning recipes will be selected and entered into the SPAM national competition. One National Grand SPAM Champion will win a $3,000 cash prize and one National SPAM Kid Chef of the Year will win a $2,000 cash prize.
Entries are being taken for the Colorado State Fair Great SPAM Championship between now and Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. The competition will take place Friday, Aug. 25, in the Creative Arts Building kitchen.
