National Slaughter Cattle Summary

Week Ending January 6, 2012

Slaughter cattle selling 1.00 lower. Very limited dressed sales in Nebraska 2.00-4.00 lower. Packer demand moderate as beef prices declined. Boxed beef prices Friday morning averaged 184.81 down 2.27 from last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is at 11.06. Slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday mid-day totaled about 93,000. Last week’s total head count was 102,921.

Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):

Slaughter cows and bulls mostly steady. Most Oklahoma markets remained closed for the holidays. USDA’s Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 158.07 up 1.49 from last Friday.
