Watch out for animal activists posing as farmers

I read a story the other day that appeared in Farm Journal’s Pork magazine. It was written by Abby Kornegay of the Animal Agriculture Alliance.
The headline was “Don’t be fooled: Animal rights activists pose as family farmers.”
The article warns farmers and ranchers to be wary of groups like Farm Action run by two former Humane World for Animals staff members, and the American Meat Producers Association, which is also led by a former Humane World for Animals staffer.
How does the Animal Agriculture Alliance know for sure that these groups don’t really represent farmers and ranchers? Because they both support upholding laws like California’s Proposition 12. And they lie about the number of farmers and ranchers that support Prop 12.
California Proposition 12 sets minimum space requirements for breeding pigs, veal calves and egg-laying hens, and bans the sale of non-compliant veal, pork and eggs anywhere in the state.
According to the article, “In January, The Center for the Environment & Welfare issued a report breaking down some of the alleged ‘supporters’ of California’s Prop 12 that were listed on a letter circulating on Capitol Hill. In the letter, Humane World for Animals had claimed that 5,000 farms across 39 states support Prop 12’s “animal welfare standards,” however, after a thorough review, it was found that this list included over 100 wineries, 150 honey producers, a goat yoga practitioner, and an urban garden — not a very accurate depiction of farmers that are actually impacted by these housing standards and supply chain restrictions.”
This disgusts me because it’s the kind of propaganda that gets put on social media and many people believe everything they read.
And remember when PETA came out with a report that said raising free-range chickens was just as bad, or worse, than raising them in cages? This is after many chicken and egg farmers had made the switch to cage-free. What PETA really wants is that nobody eats chickens or eggs. And, in the end, I’m sure they will also come out against the hog producers who switched to the Proposition 12 space requirements.
Never forget animal activists’ main objective is to wipe out all animal agriculture. And it seems they will do anything to achieve that goal, even posing as farmers.
