Cherry A. Nyland

Cherry Nyland, 61, of Eckert, Colo., passed away on June 17, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1951, in Norton, Kan. to Warren L. and Laura E. (Masterson) Nyland. At the age of 3, the family moved to Denver, Colo., then spent several years in Evergreen, Colo., and finally settled in Cedaredge, Colo. She graduated from Cedaredge High School. After graduation, Cherry married Donald Young and they raised their two daughters in Cedaredge for 25 years. She then moved to Oklahoma in 1996 and returned to Eckert, Colo., in 2003.

Cherry was a Girl Scouts leader and coached softball when her daughters participated. She was very involved with her family. Cherry worked at Walmart for 15 years and drove a school bus for Cedaredge for 17 years. She was a member of the Eckert Presbyterian Church. She loved fishing, hunting and in her earlier years, horseback riding.

She is survived by her mother, Laura Nyland; her significant other, Starr Cannon of Eckert, Colo.; two daughters: Sherry Aguilar and her fiancé Daron Likes of Eckert, Colo., and Deanna Rivas and her husband Rob of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; her sisters; Cheryl Hammett and her husband Forest; Debbie Wilkerson and her husband Terry, all of Cedaredge, Colo., and Diana Young and her husband Donald of Payson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Warren Nyland, and her brother, Warren Nyland Jr.
