Velma Rhoades
Velma Rhoades, 99 of Delta, Colo., passed away July 29, 2013, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta.
Velma was born in Burlington, Colo., April 21, 1914, to Bert and Grace Ann (Winfrey) Rice.
She grew up and attended school in Burlington, Colo.
She married Walter Rhoades Dec. 31, 1932, in Goodland, Kan. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before he died Feb. 2, 2001.
Mrs. Rhoades ranched with her husband. They lived in Gunnison from 1947 until 1969 when they moved to Paonia for health reasons. They moved to Delta in 2000.
Before moving to Gunnison she was a member of the Homemakers Club in Burlington. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hotchkiss. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, gardening, canning, flowers, the mountains, picnics, hunting and fishing.
Mrs. Rhoades is survived by her sons, Gene Rhoades and wife Phyllis of Carlsbad, N.M., Wayne Rhoades and wife Leota of Crawford, Colo., and Norman Rhoades and wife Sue of Hotchkiss, Colo.; her daughters, Betty Prosser, and Sharon Prosser and husband Dave, all of Delta, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; nine brothers; and two grandchildren.
Services were held August 9, at Thunder Mountain Church of Christ in Delta, Colo. Burial took place at Gunnison Cemetery in Gunnison, Colo.

Joanne M. Gorrod
Joanne M. Gorrod, 87, of Cedaredge, Colo., passed away August 26, 2013 at her residence.
Joanne was born on June 28, 1926 to Joseph Earl and Saloma Mary (Hapner) Dickson in Anthony, Kan.
In 1936, her family moved to Trinidad, Colo., then to Utah before settling in Cedaredge, Colorado in 1939.
Joanne married Mack Arthur Gorrod on December 2, 1946 in Cedaredge, Colo. To this union, a son and a daughter were born. Mack preceded her in death on April 25, 2011.
Joanne enjoyed canning, sewing, fishing and gardening. She was a member of Baca Busy Bees and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Joanne is survived by one daughter, Mary Armour-Bobber of Grand Junction, Colo.; one son, Joe Gorrod of Cedaredge, Colo.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Saloma Dickson; her husband, Mack Gorrod and a granddaughter, Jessica Gorrod.
Services were held August 29, 2013 at the Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colo.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made in Joanne’s memory to American Heart Association or Hope West Hospice, P. O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
