LeRoy Edward Ball, 80, of Palisade, Colo., passed away Jan. 9, 2010.
He was born July 23, 1929 to Ruth (Yager) and Ernest Ball at his grandparents house.
LeRoy married Bonnie Rose in Palisade Feb. 12, 1950. The couple would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. The couple were parents to three children.
After graduating from Palisade High School in 1947, LeRoy spent his entire life in the fruit growing industry in Palisade. Beginning as a child, he was the second of five generations to grow and sell fruit at the Ball Fruit roadside stand in Palisade. As a compelling storyteller, the highlight of every summer for LeRoy was entertaining family and fruit customers with his stories of a lifetime of hunting and fishing trips and other adventures. No matter how many times the stories were repeated, they never grew old.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie; his children, Bruce (Karl) Ball of Yakima, Wash., Rosemary (Kirk) Beckwith and Laurale (Dean ) Cross of Palisade, Colo.; his grandchildren, Elissa Ball, Seattle, Wash., Kevin Ball, Hawaii, Erin (Josh Choate)Beckwith, Seattle, Wash., Jennifer Beckwith, Eckert, Colo., Jason (Kendra) Cross and Rachel Cross, Palisade, Colo., three great-grandchildren, Abbi and Zach of Eckert, Colo., and Taylor of Palisade, Colo.
LeRoy was never without a faithful dog. In recognition of the recent loss of his much loved and loving companion, Lilly, his Labrador retriever, the family is requesting that any memorial donations be made to the Roice-Hurst Humane Society, 3320 D 1/z Road, Clifton, Colo. 81520.
