Stanley David Johnson, 67, of Fruita, Colo., passed away on Nov. 8, 2009 at his home.
He was born in Durango, Colo., to William and Marie Johnson. He attended schools in Durango.
Stan joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and was stationed in Germany for three years. He served for 11 years in the service and earned many Honorable Awards.
He was employed with CDOT in Silverton where he plowed snow over the passes. He worked for La Plata County for several years driving truck and operating equipment. He owned his own construction company, Johnson Construction in Durango. He later was employed by Holsum Bread as a truck driver. Stan had 3 million miles, and was accident free for 28 years when he retired. He retired with many awards in driver safety and several driver of the year awards. Stan was a proud Union Teamster Local 455 for years.
Stan loved the Lord with all his heart, and was always reading his Bible.
He is survived by his daughter Terri L. (Valeriano) Lopez of Fruita, Colo.; sons David P. (Janet) Johnson, Randy J. Johnson, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; brother Charles Johnson of Durango, Colo.; sister May Ann Laboto of Bayfield, Colo.; grandchildren, David Johnson Jr., Gabriel Lopez, Tylor Johnson, Seth Johnson, Katherine Johnson.
Services were held at Westgate Freewill Baptist Church, 543 31 Road, Grand Junction, Colo. 81504.
Interment of cremated remains will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colo.
