Dora Oleta Howard, 87, of Paonia, passed away November 21, 2010, at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colo.

She was born on May 8, 1923 in Wellington, Texas, to the late Julius and Otive (Chandler) Callender. She spent her childhood and attended school in Wellington, Texas. Dora married Virgil “Dale” Howard on October 1, 1953 in Clovis, N.M. She has been a resident of Paonia, Colo., the past 45 years moving from Amarillo, Texas. Together, Dora and Dale celebrated 49 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2002. Dora was a member of the Hotchkiss Church of Christ in Hotchkiss, Colo.

Dora enjoyed doing crafts, knitting, cooking, camping and fishing. She was very active in her church and loved socializing.

She is survived by her eight children Wayne Reddoch of Santa Barbara, Calif., Ray “Butch” Howard of Grand Junction, Colo., Ron Howard and spouse, Karen of Delta, Colo., Jack Howard of Mobile, Ala., Russell Howard and spouse, Diane of Marion, Ohio, Windell Howard of Paonia, Colo., Janie Whitworth and spouse Jackie of Denton, Texas, and Janice Holloway and spouse, Derek of Fertile, Minn.; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Otive Chandler; her husband, Dale Howard and an infant sister.

Memorial services were held November 26, 2010 at the Hotchkiss Memorial Hall in Hotchkiss, Colo.
