He was born June 13, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo., to Oran and Mollie Edwards. He grew up in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he attended Central High School graduating in 1953. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Dick married Mary Frances Janzen on June 6, 1959 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 4, 1968. Dick and Mary lived in and raised their family in Oklahoma until their retirement in 1997. They then moved to Dick’s favorite place, the Colorado Rockies and spent the remainder of his life in Montrose, Colo. He worked as a Graphic Artist for TG&Y in Oklahoma City for 15 years, and owned and operated his own Lock Smith business in Oklahoma for many years, before retiring as a custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1997. During his retirement in Montrose, Colo., Dick worked at Walmart, National Car Rental, and as a school crossing guard. He made many friends along the way. Dick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout his life. He enjoyed photography and was famous among his family for always having to stop on their family trips to take pictures along the way. He loved his family and always cherished the time they were able to spend together on the camping trips, and many vacations.
