Western Slope Obituaries 12-6-10

Allan Richard Edwards, 76, of Montrose, Colo., passed away November 16, 2010.

He was born June 13, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo., to Oran and Mollie Edwards. He grew up in Oklahoma City, Okla., where he attended Central High School graduating in 1953. He then attended the University of Oklahoma, before being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Dick married Mary Frances Janzen on June 6, 1959 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 4, 1968. Dick and Mary lived in and raised their family in Oklahoma until their retirement in 1997. They then moved to Dick’s favorite place, the Colorado Rockies and spent the remainder of his life in Montrose, Colo. He worked as a Graphic Artist for TG&Y in Oklahoma City for 15 years, and owned and operated his own Lock Smith business in Oklahoma for many years, before retiring as a custodian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1997. During his retirement in Montrose, Colo., Dick worked at Walmart, National Car Rental, and as a school crossing guard. He made many friends along the way. Dick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities throughout his life. He enjoyed photography and was famous among his family for always having to stop on their family trips to take pictures along the way. He loved his family and always cherished the time they were able to spend together on the camping trips, and many vacations.



He is survived by his wife, Mary; children: Ted (Michelle) Edwards of Mesa, Ariz., Crystal (Charles) Carlson of Leander, Texas, Brent (Joann) Edwards of Joplin, Mo., and Carol (Steven) Furner of Castle Dale, Utah; one brother, John Edwards of El Reno, Okla.; one sister, Sally (Dan) Danley of Kansas City, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oran and Mollie Edwards, and a sister-in-law, Kay Edwards.



Memorial services were held November 22, 2010 at the Montrose LDS 1st Ward Chapel in Montrose, Colo.

Interment followed at the Grand Junction Memorial Gardens in Grand Junction, Colo.
