Western Slope Obituaries 3-1-10

William “Bill” Gerald Raymond, 78, passed away at his home on Feb. 17, 2010.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1931 in Collbran, Colo., to Wilbur and Ethelle (Silliman) Raymond. He spent much of his childhood in Collbran and lived in Loma for more than 60 years. He graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1950. He was married to Renata Gray on March 20, 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Pusan, South Korea, from May 1, 1953 through April 30, 1955. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, a Korean Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.

During his life he operated Raymond Dairy Farm in Loma with his brother, Robert until his ‘retirement’ in 1993. Since this time he has farmed with his son, Tom. He held board positions with the Milk Producers Association (1972-1980), MEDA (Mountain Empire Dairy Association, 1980-1983), the American Dairy Association (1980-1983), and the Fruita Land and Canal Company. His passion was collecting ‘antique junk.’ He began his collection on June 6, 1972. Currently the collection sits on five acres of land. He was a former member of the Western Slope Antique Power Association. He was a longstanding member of Northeast Christian Church. He was a member of the Mission Team for ten years. He also helped with Bethlehem Revisited for thirteen years.

Bill was much loved and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Renata (Gray) of Loma, Colo.; his brothers Robert (Helen) of Loma, Colo., Darrell (Roberta) of Palisade, Colo.; three children, Jerri Inman (David) of Loma, Colo., Tom (Carol) of Loma, Colo., Don (Marie) of Loma, Colo.; 10 grandchildren, Nicole Darnell (Nick) of Loma, Colo., Julie LaMarche of Grand Junction, Colo., Paul of Loma, Colo., Stephanie Thompson (Jason) of Grand Junction, Colo., Wendy Miller of Redlands, Colo., and Dustin (Misty) of Fruita, Colo.; 10 great-grandchildren Jacquelyn, Valerie, Kody, Samantha, Dylan, Shianne, Tabitha, Kelsey, Tobias, and Kyleigh-who was born February 17, 2010 and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Ethelle, and one great-grandson, Dakota Miller.

Services were held Feb. 22, 2010 at Northeast Christian Church.

Burial services will be held privately at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
