Western Slope Obituaries 3-21-11

Samantha Pearl Barnard, 98, of Viola, Ark., passed away March 11, 2011 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark.

She was born on March 8, 1913 in New Boston, Texas, to Wiliam Burton Dedmon and Bessie Anne (Williams) Dedmon. Pearl spent her childhood in Texas, attending Texas Tech where she received her teaching certificate, she then taught school near Abilene, Texas.

On a working holiday in Colorado, Pearl met her future husband while working on the Barnard ranch. They were married on July 6, 1940 in Price, Utah and lived their lives together on the ranch in Molina, Colo.



She was a member of the Molina Baptist Church and lived her life as an example to others and in service to her family and friends. She loved to travel and in her 98 years her travel spanned everything from crossing Texas in a covered wagon to airline travel. She and Carl spent their retirement years traveling the Western United States and Canada. Pearl also spent time in Hawaii and Australia. Pearl will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by one son, William Barnard (Kathy) of Mack, Colo.; one daughter, Richlyn Roach (Dick) of Viola, Ark.; one grandson, Andrew Barnard (Andrea) of Fruita, Colo.; one step-granddaughter, Kelli Cooper of Viola, Ark.; three step-great-grandchildren, Natasha, Mistilen, and Tristan; one cousin and numerous nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by Carl, her husband of 23 years; four brothers, three sisters, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Barnard, and one step-great-grandson, Alexander.

Graveside services were held March 17, 2011 at the Mesa Cemetery in Mesa, Colo.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Enterprise Baptist Church in Viola, Ark.
