Richard Paul Gibson, 69, of Eckert, Colo., passed away April 27, 2011 at the San Juan Living Center in Montrose, Colo.

He was born to John Emery and Esta Marie (Nelld) Gibson on July 17, 1941 in Pueblo, Colo. He spent his childhood and attended schools in Gunnison, Colo., and Crested Butte, Colo.

Richard honorably served his country with the United States Navy during the Vietnam era.

On June 11, 1961, Richard married Mary Etta Frantz in Independence, Kan. To this union, four children were born. The family resided in several areas before moving to Eckert, Colo., in 1998. Richard and Mary were married 47 years before Mary’s passing on April 15, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Richard, a retired TWA lead agent, enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors whenever he had the opportunity. More importantly, he loved and cherished his family.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 9221 of Cedaredge, Colo.; All Saints Lutheran Church of Cory, Colo.; and the Masons and Shriners both of Iowa.

He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Anne Gibson of Eckert, Colo.; three sons: Richard Paul Gibson, Jr. of Delta, Colo.; Robert Alan (Kassandra) Gibson of Cedaredge, Colo.; and Shaun Christopher (Myriam Rubio) Gibson of Eckert, Colo.; two brothers, John Emery Gibson, Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Jim Gibson of Yuba City, Calif.; one sister, Marlyn Dunbar of Almont, Colo.; two grandchildren, Kyra Alana-Ann Gibson and Roger Donavan Gerald Gibson both of Cedaredge, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Esta Gibson; wife, Mary Gibson; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Gibson and Alice Gibson.
