James William Sharp, 83, of Grand Junction, Colo., formerly of Paonia, Colo., passed away at his home.

He was born to Harry Reanen and Lulu Lenna (Macht) Sharp in Pagosa Springs, Colo. He spent his childhood in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and graduated from Pagosa High in 1945.

On December 4, 1947, Jim married Martha Irene Nossaman in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and solemnized their marriage for eternity December 19, 1958 in the Manti Temple.

Jim, a heavy equipment operator, enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, excavating, and farming. He also loved animals especially horses and dogs.

He was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Jim resided in Paonia, Colo., for several years before moving to Grand Junction one week ago.

He is survived by Martha; son Roger Sharp (Nancy) of Brigham City, Utah; daughter Catherine (Richard) Maddalone of Grand Junction, Colo.; and brothers Jack Sharp of Great Falls, Mont., Aubrey Sharp of the Philippines; 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Glen Sharp; parents Harry and Lulu Sharp; sister Eula King; and brother Robert Vernon Sharp.

Memorial services were held April 27, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paonia, Colo.

Burial followed at Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia, Colo.
