Donald Boyd Owens, 70, of Hotchkiss, Colo., passed away May 15, 2010 after a lengthy illness at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born to Louis Henderson Owens and Lola Dot McCarty on April 25, 1940 on Rogers Mesa, Hotchkiss, Colo. He attended school in Hotchkiss, Colo.

Donnie married Beverly Yvonne Riley on August 10, 1958. They were married for 51 years. She survives. He was a rancher most of his life, involving orchards, hay pelleting mill, sheep and cattle. He later became a truck driver and equipment operator. They moved to Fruitland Mesa in Crawford, Colo., for eight years, then back to Hotchkiss, Colo. In 1985, they moved to Carbondale, Colo., for eight years then returned home to Hotchkiss, Colo. He belonged to the Hotchkiss Jaycees and was a past member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a 4-H leader and later enjoyed watching his grandchildren show livestock.

Donnie loved the outdoors, hunting, camping, fishing, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling. Later after becoming ill he took up tomato gardening, raising Koi and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Melinda Tribble and husband, Richard of Hotchkiss, Colo., and Jeanie Melson of Florida; a brother, Clyde Owens and wife, Irene of Spirit Lake, Idaho; sister-in-law, Eileen Stroh; ten grandchildren: Miranda Jardon and husband, Ronald; Danny Tribble and wife, Lacey; Jessica Harrison and husband, Nate; Jamie Mitchell and husband Chad; Katlyn Tribble; Vickie Melson; twins, Craig and Ryan Melson; Kayla Owens and Dana Owens; six great-grandchildren: Logan Green, Easton Tribble, Olivia Tribble, Lilly Jardon, Ethan Jardon and Lola Mitchell; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lola Owens; his son, Steven Owens; brother, Kenneth Owens and sister, Rose Wadley.
