James Herbert Brown, 87, of Cedaredge, Colo., passed away May 20, 2010 at the San Juan Living Center in Montrose, Colo.
He was born to Heath “Pete” Brown and Emma (Fisher) Brown on August 21, 1922 in St. Francis, Kan He spent his childhood and attended schools in Wray, Colo. James resided in Wheatridge, Colo., for many years before moving to Cedaredge, Colo., 15 years ago.
On November 4, 1942, James enlisted with the United States Navy during World War II. After several years of service, he was honorably discharged on August 28, 1955.
James, a successful realtor, enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time outdoors whether he was fishing, hunting or camping. James also enjoyed playing cards (especially poker) with his buddies, dancing with the ladies, taking care of his farm and riding horses. James was a member of the Delta Elks club.
He is survived by a son, Martin W. (Jean) Brown of Calif.; a daughter, Carol Faber of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Clifford Brown of Texas; one sister, Marjorie Erdley; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Holland; two sisters, Maxine Young and Betty Drummond; and one brother, David Brown.
Memorial services were held May 24, 2010 at the Cedaredge Cemetery in Cedaredge, Colo.
