Western Slope Obituaries 7-4-11

Emma Lou Krebs Scott, 86, of Montrose, Colo., passed away June 23, 2011.

She was born on March 25, 1925 in Holly, Colo. She spent her early years in eastern Colorado where her parents, Carl and Beth Krebs, raised her, her older sister Jeane (deceased) and her younger brother Don (deceased). Her parents homesteaded and then rented a large farm in eastern Colorado, growing grain for sale. When the great dust bowl began to consume the rich farmland in the Midwest and blow away the good soil, Emma Lou’s parents decided to pull up stakes and moved to Delta, Colo., in 1937. She attended Delta Schools and made many good friends, some of which still live in Delta, Colo.

Emma Lou married Dalton Scott in 1946 and they operated Scotty’s Conoco at 5th and Main in Delta, Colo., until 1982. Scotty passed away in 1988. Scotty and Emma Lou had two daughters, Beth and Doris. Beth lives in Boulder, Colo., and Doris is a teacher at Olathe, Colo., and lives in Montrose, Colo., with her husband, Rex Swihart. Her faith was reflected in her commitment to her family, her friends, and her church, First Presbyterian in Delta, Colo. She was a member of Eastern Star, BBC Club and played Bridge in various circles with friends she had known for 60 years. She was a wonderful supporter of her daughters in 4-H, Rainbow, First Presbyterian Youth Group, piano lessons and school activities. She was dedicated to her parents and lovingly assisted them until their individual deaths. Emma Lou was a full partner with Scotty in managing their business. She later again became an avid sports and music fan supporting her granddaughters, Hayley and Erin, in all their activities.

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Swihart and husband, Rex of Montrose, Colo., and Beth Scott Livesay of Boulder, Colo.; and granddaughters, Hayley of Greeley, Colo., and Erin of Los Angeles, Calif.

Memorial services were held July 1, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church of Delta, Colo.

A private family inurnment was held at Delta City Cemetery, Delta, Colo.
