Lydia Amalia Rose, 79, of Cedaredge, Colo., passed away August 7, 2010 at her home.

She was born August 15, 1930 in Herbstadt, Germany to Florentin and Hedwig Ziegler. She grew up in Bad-Neustadt, West Germany where she attended school and worked in the enamel factories.

She was married to Chester R. Rose on January 20, 1954 in Kitzingen West Germany. They were stationed in Fort Hood, Tex., with the United States Army until 1957, when they moved to Schwabach, Germany. In 1960, they were transferred to Fort. Irwin, Calif., and then to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in 1964. After Chester retired from the army in 1965, they moved to Colorado, living in Paonia, and Palisade then to Yellville, Ariz., and finally Cedaredge, Colo., in 1987, where they remained.

Lydia was very proud to became a citizen of the United States on June 14, 1957.

She loved to sew, knit, and crochet. She also loved being in the outdoors. One of her favorite activities was fishing. She also enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking and gardening. No doubt her greatest joy was her family.

She is survived by her three daughters, June Brew and her husband Dennis of Cedaredge, Colo., Jeanette Thomas and her husband Mikey of Parachute, Colo., and Juanita Vanderpool and her husband Marvin of Clifton, Colo.; four sisters; Annelise Gallena of Bad-Neustadt, Germany, Edeltraud Cirklaff of Bad-Neustadt, Germany, Helmtrud Straub of Oberelsbach, Germany, and Mechthilde Nowak of Koln Germany; one brother, Wolfgang Ziegler of Offenbach, Germany; five grandchildren, Chris and (Trish) Casey, Sarah Casey, Cory and (Christi) Brew, Miranda and (Britton) Cottrell, and Kendra Vanderpool and six great-grandchildren, Rosemary Casey, Jasmine Casey, April Casey, Isaac Brew, Amalia Cottrell, and Prestlie Casey.

She was preceded in death by her parents Florentin and Hedwig, her brother Alfred Ziegler, her husband Chester Rose, and her grandson Kenny Vanderpool.

Memorial services were held August 14, 2010 at the Assembly of God church in Cedaredge, Colo.

Interment will be in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado in Grand Junction, Colo.
