Virginia C. Murphy, 86, of Cedaredge, Colo., passed away August 19, 2011 at her home.

She was born on January 5, 1925 to West Matlock and Helen (Robbins) Hubbell in Redlands, Calif. She spent her childhood in Ontario, California and graduated from Chaffey High School in 1942.

Virginia married Jack Bryan Murphy on October 23, 1942 in Ontario, Calif. She was a member of the Surface Creek Historical Society, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Friends of the Library in Cedaredge, Colo., and the Chaffey High School Alumni Association. She was a retired librarian for the public school district and the State of California Youth Authority.

Together, the Murphy’s traveled all 50 states and Nova Scotia. Virginia enjoyed playing family Scrabble and was the Jeopardy champion. She loved hearing quotes from her great-grandchildren, enjoyed genealogy research, and loved cats. She also loved collecting lighthouses, dolls and antiques. She had a detailed memory for childhood events, classmates and playmates.

She is survived by her children; Michael Murphy and spouse, Renee; Susan Manney and fiance, Rick Carr and Gail Raetz and spouse, Garrett; step-brother, Philip Cornelius of Pasadena, Calif.; two sisters, Monnie Hubbell of Bakersfield, Calif. and Patricia Webb of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren: Damon Garn and spouse, Emily; Brandy Dale and spouse, Ed; Janae Stovall and spouse, Shawn; Letha Johnson and spouse, Don and Matthew Murphy and fiance, Shannon; and eight great-grandchildren: Tannis and Zoey Garn; Jaedyn Dale; Seth and Camdenne Stovall; and Katie, Elias and Tessa Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack Bryan Murphy and her parents, West and Helen Hubbell.
