Edith Sue Russell Beacham, 87, of Panonia, Colo., passed away September 3, 2010 in Delta, Colo.

She was born May 24, 1923 in Pontotoc, Miss., to Flavius Josephus Russell II and Viva Smith Russell and was the second of three daughters. In 1930, the family moved to Jackson, Miss., where Edith attended schools and graduated from Central High School. She attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Miss.

On November 26, 1942 she married Loyd Lamar Beacham, Jr. who practiced law in Jackson, Miss., for 38 years until his death in 1987. Together they had three children, Loyd Lamar III, Viva Corinne and Susan Laura. Edith worked for Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co. for 21 years. Upon retirement in 1988, she moved to La Jolla, Calif. She worked for Nautilus Pharmacy for 10 years. In 2004 she moved to Paonia, Colo., where she lived until her passing.

Edith was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames Seventeenth Century, the La Jolla Woman’s Club, and Mississippi Farm Bureau Retirees Association. She was a Real Granddaughter of the Confederacy and she was a true Southern Belle.

She is survived by her son Loyd Lamar (Leticia) Beacham III, Arlington, Tex., and daughters Viva Corinne (Scott) Kellogg of Paonia, Colo., and Susan Laura (Mitchell) Ellner of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; grandchildren Shane Bitzer, Tovah Ellner, Daniel Ellner, Ali Moussavizadeh, Loyd Lamar Beacham IV and Alexander (Fritz) Beacham; five great-grandchildren; one sister Viva Lou Forman of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister-in-law Alma Beacham of Costa Mesa, Calif.; a brother-in-law George deCarion of Marco Island, Fla., and two nieces and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Flavia Jo Russell deCarion of Atlanta, Ga., and two brothers-in-law Bertram Forman and Gordon (Buddy) Beacham.

Cremation has taken place and at Edith’s request, there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered on the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, Calif., where she lived for 16 years. A seating bench will be erected at Windansea Beach in memory of Edith’s happy life there.
