About the goats

Boer goats are a South African breed raised for their meat. In Afrikaans, “boer” means farmer.

Aspen Martin of Mason, Texas, took first overall as Grand Champion, as well as first in the heavy weight division with her 115-pound goat Pfeiffer.

The 13-year-old cried tears of joy as friends and family gathered to congratulate her for her victory in the Junior Goat Championship.

Braden Schovanec of Garber, Okla., took the Reserve Grand Champion title with his goat Sparkle. He was also named champion in the medium weight division.

Other winners included Morgan Craig of Hulbert, Okla., named light weight champion with Ty. Reserve light weight champion was Chloe Goretska of Corydon, Iowa with her goat George.

Reserve champions in the medium weight and heavy weight categories were Courtney Castello of Tracy, Calif. and Ashlyn Tucker of Santo, Texas, respectively. ❖
