Baird introduces Hemp Planting Predictability Act
Rep. Jim Baird, R-Ind., introduced the Hemp Planting Predictability Act, H.R. 7010, which would provide a two-year extension delaying implementation of changes to the federal definition of hemp.
The fiscal year 2026 agriculture appropriations bill that was passed in November as part of the measure to reopen the government after the shutdown contains a provision that would ban intoxicating hemp-based or hemp-derived products, including delta-8 [THC], from being sold online, in gas stations, and corner stores.
The U.S. Hemp Roundtable said the Baird bill “creates important additional time for policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders to collaborate on a bipartisan, comprehensive regulatory framework that prioritizes public safety while preserving a legal agricultural industry that supports a $28.4 billion economic engine, more than 328,000 American jobs, and $13.2 billion in wages nationwide.”
