DENVER, Colo. — A year ago, Alan de Souza from Tremembé, Sao Paulo, Brazil, left the National Western Stock Show with nearly $20,000 in earnings and a new buckle as the Professional Bull Riders Denver Chute-Out Champion.

On Tuesday night, de Souza was offered a re-ride after the first bull that he got on hit the bucking chutes. Just minutes later, he got on Flying S Bucking Bulls/Dozier’s four-legged athlete named Snap Chatter. After that 8-second effort, de Souza had an 87.3 by his name putting him in 8th place in the first round. Most importantly, that score advanced him to Wednesday night’s second round. If he is successful he will likely qualify for the finals and have an opportunity to defend his championship from last year.

The final round will feature the best 15 riders based on total scores on two rides. Then the title will be earned by the man who has the highest total on three.

Dalton Allred from Cleveland, Utah, was able to hold onto the top spot in the first round. Allred rode on Monday night and scored 91.3 points on Dialed In owned by Double S Bull Company/Cervi. There have been two rides over 90 points here so far. The other one belongs to John Crimber from Decatur, Texas, who had a 91.1.

With the quality of bulls and riders at the Denver Chute-Out, fans can expect to see more high scores on Wednesday. The final night of PBR action gets underway at 7 p.m.
