Chugwater’s Chili Cook-off & Roundup awarded Black Hills Energy grant
CHUGWATER, Wyo. — Chugwater Events, Inc. has been awarded a $1,000 grant from Black Hills Energy to support and grow its well-known Chugwater’s Chili Cook-Off & Roundup.
The funding will help enhance this year’s event by supporting their mission to raise profits for Chugwater’s local nonprofits: Prairie View Charter School FFA and FBLA, Chugwater Volunteer Fire Department, Chugwater Community Center, Chugwater Economic Development and the Chugwater Historical Unity Group. This grant also supports the organization’s ongoing mission to bring people together and strengthen the local economy.
“This is a huge boost for our community,” said Shelby Fortik, the 40th chairperson. “Events like the Chili Cook-Off aren’t just about a good time — they bring visitors into town, support our local businesses, and create something our community can be proud of. We’re incredibly grateful for this support.”
The Chugwater’s Chili Cook-Off & Roundup, celebrating its 40th Anniversary, draws visitors from across Wyoming and neighboring states, making it one of the region’s most anticipated summer events. With this grant, organizers plan to grow attendance, improve visitor experience, and increase the number of cooks at this year’s competition, helping position the event as a true regional destination.
“For 40 years, the Chugwater Chili Cookoff has united people with great food, great fun and an even greater cause,” said Laurie Farkas, senior public affairs manager. “Black Hills Energy is so proud to provide support for the event and the local nonprofits that benefit from this iconic celebration. We can’t wait to see you all there.”
The 2026 Chugwater Chili Cook-Off is scheduled for Saturday, June 20 on Father’s Day weekend, and organizers are already gearing up for one of the biggest years yet.
