Yes, to get a job as a NYC snow shoveler you have to meet their ID requirements. But not to vote.
Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act or the SAVE Act is currently a bill in the U.S. Congress. It sets forth requirements for voting in federal elections. It has passed the House of Representatives and is headed for the Senate. H.R.22 “requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. The bill specifies what documents are considered acceptable proof of U.S. citizenship, such as identification that complies with the REAL ID Act of 2005 that indicates U.S. citizenship.”
One political party is adamantly opposed to the requirement.
Their stance it that such requirements disenfranchise women and minorities. They are essentially saying these citizens are not smart enough to obtain an ID. How insulting. Tribal members have photo IDs, as do those who want to get on an airplane, buy liquor or even get a library card.
In 2021, when Vice President Kamala Harris was asked if she would support voter ID requirements, she replied, “I don’t think that we should underestimate what that could mean. Because in some people’s mind, that means well, you’re going to have to Xerox or photocopy your ID to send it in to prove you are who you are. Well, there are a whole lot of people, especially people who live in rural communities, who don’t… there’s no Kinkos, there’s no OfficeMax near them.”
People like her is why we have the Electoral College. This would be an even sadder state of affairs if she and her elitist comrades got their way and took that modicum of rights for “flyover states” away from us. I have a copier in my home office and I know how to use it. Apparently, she and her ilk would be surprised that even rural people have modern conveniences.
What we don’t have out here are people burning buildings and murdering others daily. We live where people still use (indoor) bathrooms instead of pooping on the sidewalk. We hold our law enforcement in high regard and we are smart enough to realize that if we break the law, we will be held accountable.
There is a word for the people who don’t believe in borders yet live in guarded, gated communities: hypocrites.
